Tyler S body (Studio Elite) vs. PRS DGT.

Yes apple and orange. One needs both. Subjective. Now that I got that out the way, I am about to pull the trigger on one or the other this week. Please help! I can not test drive neither since I can locate any around where I live.

All my playing is Christian modern music.

Which one?

Thank you!

Both are excellent guitars, tough choice!

If you're in a worship band and need to cover a lot of sonic territory, get the Tyler, it's the more versatile in terms of tonal options, and definitely get it in HSS configuration as opposed to 3 singles.

If you're doing originals or just really want a dual-bucker guitar, get the PRS.

I'd definitely get the PRS over the Tyler, but that's mainly because I think Tylers are ugly as all get out.   Cheesy

I was actually able to spend a good deal of time on a dgt this past week. It was an incredible guitar. Played SOO easy! The neck was perfect and I felt like it covered alot of ground tonally. That being said, for MY tastes, the neck pickup was a tad too bassy and the bridge pickup too bright. This could easily be cured by a pickup swap, but on an instrument of that price, you shouldn't have to swap pickups. Note that IMO prs is where it's at for guitars. The mccarty is probly my favorite guitar of all time (yes, I've tried original 50s/60s fenders and gibsons). I must add that I don't have any experience with Tyler, grosh, Anderson, suhr so I can't give you an informed opinion about the other side of your question. I would suggest trying out an older mccarty...

I would hold off if I were you (really why the rush). Seriously you need to play them. Make a road trip and play them. This is a significant investment. Enough so that you should make the road trip.

I will say, I have bought a few guitars before I played them. ALL disappointed except for one. The Godin I got from Peter here. I felt more comfortable about that as I had some insight into what Peter likes, so I better understood his descriptions.

If you buy before trying, MAKE SURE you get a x day satisfaction, 100% money back deal. Then make sure you have all those days off. You have got to get through the honeymoon to know if its what you want.

I would usually agree, but I could say in 5 minutes time, being a PRS fanatic that even though I love their guitars, the DGT wasn't for me...sometimes you just know.

For me, if it was only those two, it'd be the Tyler.

I've never played a Tyler, and would love to try it.  Still, I don't understand what the fuss is all about with Tylers - just another fantastic Strat-type guitars Smiley  Tyler seems very west coast.  My friend owns a small label out in LA, and the guitarist in the band they are funding and promoting plays a Tyler.  I guess it carries a "cool" factor.

PRS DGT (I replied to you in TGP) for me is fantastic, and the pickups, especially in coil-tap mode, produces one of the better Strat, neck pickup tone.  HOWEVER, the more I think about your question, any Strat-like guitar would be better off for you.

I'd also consider Suhrs!

With instruments on that level - professional level price/quality - you really need to try both. For me, I'd have to absolutely fall in love with a guitar to spend that much money. I don't think you can really chose badly here; either way you are going to have an incredible guitar to work with, but I'd give the edge in the versatility category to the Tyler (assuming S/S/H).

IMHO, YMMV.

I can't believe I didn't think of that! That would be perfect, but someone already beat me to it...dang...

Hopefully the decision is a road trip.

Road trip? Perhaps I should...

Let's see...Brand New Tyler =$3xxx. If I don't like it and have to sell it, I will likely get hit with $400-$600(referenced used market). or;

Drive to L.A.= $100 on gas(14 hours drive round trip), $50 for motel, $30 for 3 meals, and a miss a day of work...this adds to over $700 total.

Should I still make this trip? Maybe the chance to meet James Tyler and tour his shop maybe worth paying extra to drive.

I think we have a winner. Taking South West Airline down and back will only cost me $150ish. Plane ticket is only $100 and rental car is another $30ish.
